MLS News: Sporting KC re-sign trio of MLS veterans

Sporting Kansas City re-signed defenders Graham Zusi and Andreu Fontas and midfielder Roger Espinoza on Friday.

Fontas signed a two-year deal through 2024. Zusi and Espinoza signed one-year contracts with options for 2024.

Selected by Sporting KC in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft, Zusi, 36, has spent his entire 14-year professional career with the club and has won four major championships. One of the most accomplished players in club history, Zusi has 31 goals and 73 assists in 341 regular-season games (296 starts).

Espinoza, 36, has spent 13 seasons at Sporting Kansas City and helped the club to three Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup championships. In 316 regular-season games (278 starts), Espinosa has 12 goals and 43 assists.

Fontas, 33, earned the club’s Defender of the Year award for the second straight season in 2022. In 79 games (74 starts), Fontas has three goals and an assist.
