The Seattle Sounders acquired decorated FC Dallas forward Jesus Ferreira in a trade Wednesday.

Dallas received winger Leo Chu, up to $2.3 million in general allocation money and a 2025 international roster slot.

Ferreira, 24, recorded 53 goals and 34 assists in 163 matches with Dallas from 2017-24.

He tied the franchise single-season record with 18 goals in 2022, earning MLS Young Player of the Year and MLS Best XI honors that season. He was an MLS All-Star in 2022 and 2023.

“On behalf of everyone at FC Dallas, I want to thank Jesus Ferreira for his contributions to our club,” team president Dan Hunt said. “From his time in our Academy to becoming one of the top players in MLS, Jesus has made a tremendous impact on our organization. His dedication and goal-scoring prowess will always be an important part of our history.”

“On a personal level, I’ve really enjoyed the relationship I’ve had with both him and his father, David, who is one of the greatest players to ever play for FC Dallas. Jesus has left a similar legacy.”

Making his MLS debut in June 2017 at 16 years and 161 days, Ferreira became the youngest player in FC Dallas history to score a goal.

Ferreira has scored 15 goals in 23 caps with the U.S. Men’s National Team, including back-to-back hat tricks in the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup.

Chu, 24, tallied seven goals and 14 assists in 79 matches (46 starts) with the Sounders from 2021-24. The Brazil international helped Seattle win its first Concacaf Champions League title in 2022.

FC Dallas will receive $1 million in 2025 general allocation money and $500,000 in 2026, plus up to an additional $800,000 if certain performance metrics are met.

“We’re very excited to come to an agreement to bring Jesus to Seattle. He’s a player who not only brings a great deal of talent, but also complements the strengths of our existing roster,” said Sounders general manager Craig Waibel. “Jesus’ versatility allows him to operate in multiple attacking roles, giving our coaches more tactical options in different game situations. His creativity and movement will enhance our ability to break down defenses, and we’re confident he’ll be a valuable contributor to the team’s success moving forward.”

“I also want to extend our gratitude to Leo Chu for his contributions during his time with the club,” Waibel added. “Leo brought energy and passion to our team over the past four seasons, and we wish him well on his next career step in Dallas.”
