CF Montreal didn’t score of a goal of their own Saturday night at home against the New York Red Bulls until second-half stoppage time, but the last place team in the Eastern Conference still earned a win, 2-0.

Montreal had just three goals scored as a team entering the game.

Montreal first got on the board on an own goal by RBNY defender Andres Reyes in the 25th minute.

The home side practically handed the Red Bulls a chance to draw even or more with a red card to Ilias Iliadis in the 65th minute for some extra contact to an opposing player. But a late goal from Mathieu Choiniere ensured the victory.

Montreal (2-6-0, 6 points) got its first win in more than a month.

New York (1-3-5, 8 points) leads the league in draws and had to come from behind to get four of those five ties this season. But there was no comeback Saturday.

Choiniere made sure of it, his goal coming on the counter as Montreal came down the field on a 2-on-1. The initial shot attempt was stopped by Red Bulls goalkeeper Carlos Coronel, but Choiniere was in the right spot to clean up the rebound and score.

New York had 15 shots to seven for Montreal but only four of those 15 were on frame, while Montreal had six shots on goal.

Coronel had four saves to six for his Montreal counterpart, Jonathan Sirois.

The Red Bulls came out with a strong start to the match, peppering Sirois with early shots.

Wikelman Carmona had his shot saved in the center of the goal and Cameron Harper missed just wide seconds later. Carmona took two shots that were close but off target and Omir Fernandez had a shot saved in the corner.

All of those attempts took place in the first 16 minutes of the match.
