Real Salt Lake acquired midfielder Nelson Palacio from Colombia’s Atletico Nacional on Thursday.
The 22-year-old Colombian is signed through the 2026 MLS season with team options for 2027 and 2028.
Palacio will occupy one of RSL’s three U22 Initiative roster slots, joining Andres Gomez and Braian Ojeda.

“Nelson’s addition represents another fantastic piece for our roster for both 2023 and beyond,” RSL general manager Elliot Fall said in a release. “Providing another high-level option to our already excellent midfield, Nelson’s athleticism, composure, and ball-playing ability will provide an excellent complement to every other player in our midfield.”
Palacio recorded three goals and one assist in 85 matches with Atletico Nacional.
The MLS secondary transfer window opens next Wednesday and Palacio will be eligible to play for Real Salt Lake in their July 8 home match against Orlando City SC.
