The Colorado Rapids signed free agent midfielder Omir Fernandez to a three-year contract.
The deal announced Wednesday includes a club option for the 2027 season.
“We’re elated to add a player of Omir’s quality and experience to our roster,” sporting director Fran Taylor said. “Omir is an attacking player coming into his prime and possesses the physical attributes and mentality that we believe will make us a more dangerous group. We look forward to welcoming him to Colorado.”
Fernandez spent the past five seasons with the New York Red Bulls. Including a career-high six goals plus four assists in 2023, he registered 15 goals and 13 assists in 112 MLS matches (59 starts) from 2019-23.
The signing reunites the Bronx, N.Y., native with former NYRB coach Chris Armas, now the head coach of the Rapids.
“We are incredibly happy to bring Omir to the club,” Armas said. “Not only is he an intelligent and skilled attacking player, but he also exemplifies humility and high character. Having worked with him before, I know he understands our style of play really well and I’m looking forward to working with him again.”
