The Colorado Rapids acquired midfielder Danny Leyva on loan from Seattle Sounders FC Tuesday in exchange for $92,000 in 2023 general allocation money and a third-round pick in the 2025 MLS SuperDraft.
Per the agreement between the teams, both clubs reserve the right to end the loan during the secondary transfer window.
“It was important for us to reinforce our midfield with a player of Danny’s quality as the schedule begins to get congested over the coming months,” Rapids president Padraig Smith said. “Danny’s an intelligent and highly technical player who has already logged significant MLS minutes at his young age. We look forward to welcoming him to Colorado and seeing him contribute to the team.”
Leyva became the youngest signing in Sounders’ franchise history when he inked a homegrown player deal in 2019. He was 15 at the time.
Leyva, 19, has yet to record a goal or an assist in three appearances off the bench this season. He has two assists in 54 career MLS matches (25 starts) with the Sounders.
