The Colorado Rapids acquired defender Kosi Thompson from Toronto FC on Thursday in exchange for up to $400,000 in general allocation money.

Toronto receives $200,000 in 2026 GAM and up to an additional $200,000 if he reaches certain performance-based incentives. Toronto also retains a percentage of any future transfer or trade.

“We are excited to welcome Kosi to the club,” Rapids sporting director Fran Taylor said. “He’s a young defender with valuable MLS experience who brings solidity, and versatility to our group. Kosi has shown the ability to impact the game on both sides of the ball, and we believe he’s a strong fit for how we want to play.”

Thompson, a 23-year-old Ontario native, tallied two goals and one assist in 113 appearances across all competitions for Toronto from 2022-26.

“We would like to thank Kosi for his service to our club,” Toronto general manager Jason Hernandez said. “As one of our homegrown players, Kosi dedicated many years of his football journey to TFC, and we greatly appreciate his efforts within our environment. We understand his desire to challenge for consistent minutes at this time thus we were able to come together for this move. We wish Kosi all the best in the next chapter of his career and he will always have a home at TFC.”

Toronto will host the Rapids in the next match for both sides on April 4.
