Los Angeles FC will look to remain undefeated to start the MLS season Saturday against visiting St. Louis City SC, which has never beaten the Southern California squad.
LAFC (3-0-0, 9 points) is one of three MLS clubs to start the season with three wins and three clean sheets.
Marc Dos Santos’ side is in the midst of a busy stretch following a 1-1 midweek draw against visiting Costa Rican club Alajuelense in CONCACAF Champions Cup Round of 16 action. After Saturday’s MLS match, LAFC will play their second leg at Alajuelense on Tuesday.
“We have to think on having fresh legs on Tuesday, but we also have to think there’s a possibility, an opportunity to make 12 out of 12 points in MLS,” said Dos Santos.
Forward David Martinez leads LAFC with two goals through three MLS matches, while Korean Son Heung-Min has three assists in MLS action, matching his total from last season.
Los Angeles is 4-0-2 all-time in MLS action against St. Louis and has conceded just two goals across the six matches.
St. Louis (0-2-1, 1 point) travels to Los Angeles in search of its first win of the season.
St. Louis dropped a 1-0 decision to Seattle last weekend and has now gone two matches without a goal.
“The biggest thing is managing moments is very important,” St. Louis coach Yoann Damet said. “Understanding in moments, little details in terms of efficiency can affect the outcome of the game. Making sure individuals in those moments are making the right decisions and executing in the way we want.”
German midfielder Marcel Hartel has the club’s lone goal this season in the 1-1 draw against Charlotte to open the MLS campaign.
Saturday is the first of two meetings this season. LAFC visit St. Louis on May 13.
