MLS News: Julian Hall’s late goal gives Red Bulls draw vs. Sporting Kansas City

Julian Hall scored a late equalizer, and the host New York Red Bulls salvaged a 1-1 draw against Sporting Kansas City on Saturday evening.

Hall, a second-half substitute, fired a shot in the 89th minute past a flat-footed Tim Melia as the Red Bulls (10-5-13, 43 points) claimed their 10th non-losing result in 11 MLS matches (2-1-8).

Kansas City (7-14-7, 28 points) saw its bid for a second straight MLS win come up just short. It also ended the night with 10 men as Jake Davis was shown his second yellow card of the night in second-half stoppage time.

The Red Bulls squandered a golden opportunity in the 33rd minute as Elias Manoel misfired at a wide-open net.

SKC, meanwhile, struggled to produce anything in the attack until Alan Pulido’s goal in the 55th minute, a volley past Ryan Meara off Davis’ assist. It was Pulido’s fifth goal of the year.

Kansas City appeared to double its advantage in the 62nd minute, but Erik Thommy’s goal was disallowed on an offside call.

But the 16-year-old Hall, who entered the match in the 81st minute for Elias, scored his second goal of the season to tie the score.

Meara, in goal for the Red Bulls with Carlos Coronel on international duty, was credited with zero saves. Melia made two saves for Kansas City.

SKC’s leading scorer, Willy Agada, was out while serving a red-card suspension. Red Bulls head coach Sandro Schwarz was also unavailable due to yellow card accumulation.

Meanwhile, SKC defender Dany Rosero was substituted late in the first half after suffering an apparent head injury.

The Red Bulls moved to 7-1-6 at home. Kansas City is now 2-9-3 on the road.
