FC Dallas needed to win their Wednesday clash against the Colorado Rapids to boost their MLS Cup playoff hopes, but the weather had other ideas.
After two hours of weather delays due to rain and strong winds in the Frisco, Texas, area, the match was postponed. MLS did not immediately announce a makeup date.
For the Rapids (5-15-11, 26 points), it was the sixth time this season that weather had delayed a kickoff time, and the fifth time it forced a match postponement. Colorado is the only Western Conference team already eliminated from playoff contention.
It wasn’t an easy night for supporters of FC Dallas (10-10-11, 41 points) at Toyota Stadium, as the “O” on the “Toyota” sign above one of the stands broke apart due to the wind. A fan posted on social media that the piece of signage crashed into him and he sustained a minor shoulder injury.
Other impacts to the stadium included advertising boards that flew into the deserted stands and broadcast cameras blown over on the pitch.
FC Dallas will hope the rescheduled match will benefit them, as they now hold an extra game to play compared to the rest of their counterparts in the playoff race. They currently hold the ninth and final postseason spot in the West, with three teams trailing them by three points.
