FC Cincinnati announced the transfer of defender Alvaro Barreal to Brazilian top-flight side Santos on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old Argentina international spent the 2025 season on loan at Santos, where the team said he met the performance metrics that triggered his multi-million dollar purchase obligation.

Barreal enjoyed his best season at FCC in 2023, earning MLS All-Star honors with the Supporters’ Shield winners.

He contributed 19 goals and 29 assists in 121 appearances across all competitions with the team from 2020-23.

Barreal spent the 2024 season on loan with Brazil’s Cruzeiro.
