Houston Dynamo goalkeeper Andrew Tarbell said Tuesday that he will undergo season-ending surgery after tearing the ACL in a knee on Saturday.
Tarbell, 31, was injured during Saturday’s 2-1 home loss against Real Salt Lake.
“I’m gutted to share that in Saturday’s game, I tore my ACL and will need surgery,” Tarbell said on Instagram. “I’m focused on recovery and coming back stronger.”
Jimmy Maurer replaced Tarbell in the 37th minute and completed the match in net.
Tarbell has started all four games for the Dynamo (0-3-1, 1 point) this season and has one shutout and 11 saves.
This season was to be Tarbell’s first as the full-time starter since he served in that role for the San Jose Earthquakes in 2018.
Tarbell has eight career shutouts in 62 MLS matches (58 starts) with the Earthquakes (2016-19), Columbus Crew (2020), Austin FC (2021-22) and Dynamo (2023-present).
