The Chicago Fire and visiting D.C. United combined for just five shots on target as they played to a scoreless draw on Saturday.

The Fire (1-1-3, six points) had 11 shots but just two on target, while D.C. United (1-3-2, five points) put just three of their nine shots on target.

Chicago goalie Chris Brady recorded his first shutout in his fifth career start, while D.C. United goalie Tyler Miller notched his first clean sheet of the season and the 32nd of his eight-year career. Miller had no shutouts last season but 11 in 2021 as a member of Minnesota United.

The Fire maintained possession for 57.9 percent of the match, in addition to completing 70.8 percent of their 394 passes.

But Chicago couldn’t find a game-winner like it did last week, when Kei Kamara’s goal in the 92nd minute lifted the visiting Fire to their first win of the season, 3-2 over Inter Miami.

D.C. also played strong defensively until the end, unlike last week, when it gave up the decisive goal in the 88th minute of a 2-1 loss to the visiting New England Revolution.

Against Chicago, D.C. United completed 62 percent of their 295 passes, in addition to earning just three corner kicks — six fewer than the Fire.

Neither Chicago nor D.C. mustered much of an attack in the first half.

Chicago maintained possession for 55.1 percent in the half, but just one of its six shots was on target. The Fire completed 73.1 percent of their 193 passes.

D.C. United put just two of their four shots on target during the first half, when they completed just 66.7 percent of their 162 passes.

The Fire host Minnesota on Saturday, while D.C. United welcome the Columbus Crew that day.
