The Columbus Crew announced the acquisition of Colombian midfielder Marino Hinestroza on Friday.

The 21-year-old joins the 2023 MLS Cup champions on a transfer from Liga MX side C.F. Pachuca. The transfer fee was not disclosed.

Hinestroza will fill an international roster slot when the MLS transfer window opens Jan. 31. He is under contract through 2026 with an option for 2027.

“Marino performed at a high level for Pachuca this past year, and we are excited to help further advance this young player’s development within our club,” Crew president and general manager Tim Bezbatchenko said. “He is a talented individual who can fit various roles within our style of play, including adding a one-v-one threat to our attack.”

Hinestroza joined Pachuca for the 2022-23 campaign and featured in 46 matches with two goals and four assists. He played a pivotal role in the club winning Liga MX’s Apertura title in 2022.?
