The visiting Chicago Fire exploded for three goals late in the second half as they defeated FC Dallas 3-1 in rainy Frisco, Texas on Saturday.

Leonardo Barroso, Andrew Gutman, and Hugo Cuypers scored in a span of less than 10 minutes for the Fire (1-1-1, 4 points), who won their first match under Gregg Berhalter while handing Dallas (1-1-1, 4 points) a loss in its home opener.

Barroso, making his MLS debut after signing for Chicago out of Portugal’s Sporting Lisbon in the offseason, scored the eventual winner in the 84th minute. After a long-distance shot was initially saved by Dallas goalkeeper Maarten Paas, Barroso was there to knock home the rebound to put the Fire in front.

Barroso’s goal, the first of his professional career, came moments after an 82nd-minute equalizer from Gutman. He booted a low cross from Cuypers past Dallas goalkeeper Maarten Paes to make it 1-1, scoring for just the 12th time in his career.

Cuypers added a third goal for the Fire, delivering from the penalty spot in second-half stoppage time. The goal was Cuypers’ third of the season.

After Petar Musa’s first-half goal was waved off by an offside call after a video review, Dallas eventually did open the scoring through Logan Farrington in the 57th minute. He got on the end of a chipped pass from Anderson Julio, and with Chicago goalkeeper Chris Brady pulled off his line, scored on a wide-open net to make it 1-0.

Dallas was awarded a penalty of its own after the Fire’s second-half flurry as it looked to make it 3-2 in second-half stoppage time, but Musa’s kick from the spot was denied by Brady.

Cuypers and Sergio Oregel had an assist each for the Fire.

Brady finished the evening with five saves for Chicago. Paes made four stops for Dallas despite allowing three goals.

The Fire held the edge in overall shots, 13-11, while recording seven shots on goal to Dallas’s six. They also held a 53.7 to 46.3 percent possession advantage.
