CF Montreal acquired defender Aaron Herrera from Real Salt Lake on Wednesday for $500,000 in general allocation money and a draft pick.
Real Salt Lake receives $350,000 in GAM in 2023 and $150,000 in 2024 plus the No. 25 overall pick in Wednesday’s MLS SuperDraft and a 2023 international roster slot.
Herrera, 25, recorded three assists in 27 games (25 starts). He tallied 19 assists and one goal in 124 MLS matches (119 starts) over five seasons with RSL from 2018-22.
“We are very pleased with Aaron’s arrival at the Club. He is a player who will contribute with his quality on the field, but also with his experience in the league. He can play a variety of positions, both as a central defender in a three-man backline, and on the flanks, on the right and on the left,” CF Montreal chief sporting officer Olivier Renard said. “We had contacted Real Salt Lake in the past to acquire him, but without success. We are very happy that this transaction is now taking place.”
Real Salt Lake will also retain a percentage of a future transfer fee for Herrera if his fee meets a certain threshold.
