Brian Rodriguez scored a go-ahead goal in the 47th minute to fuel the host Los Angeles FC to a 3-2 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday.

LAFC (9-3-2, 29 points) claimed an early 2-0 lead after Cristian Arango scored on a penalty kick in the seventh minute and defender Ryan Hollingshead tallied six minutes later.

Maxime Crepeau made one save for LAFC, who have won two in a row following a modest two-match skid. The club rebounded after a defeat Wednesday over the rival Los Angeles Galaxy in U.S. Open Cup play.

LAFC leading goal-scorer Carlos Vela (quadriceps), Jesus David Murillo (yellow card accumulation) and Diego Palacios (head) did not play Saturday. Vela aggravated his injury early in Wednesday’s game.

Jeremy Ebobisse recorded his fourth two-goal game of the season for the Earthquakes (3-6-5, 14 points) and JT Marcinkowski made six saves as San Jose fell to 0-5-1 on the road.

A turnover by San Jose’s Eric Remedi led to LAFC claiming a 3-2 lead in the 47th minute. Rodriguez tucked the ball under the right arm of a diving Marcinkowski and inside the near post for his second goal of the season.

LAFC bolted out of the blocks to start the game.

Hollingshead drew a tripping penalty from Jan Gregus to set up a penalty kick for Arango, who used a stutter step maneuver before depositing ball into the right corner of the net. Arango’s goal was his third of the season and first since April 17.

Hollingshead doubled the advantage in the 13th minute after his left-footed shot from the box sailed inside the left post for his fourth of the season.

Ebobisse trimmed LAFC’s lead to 2-1 just three minutes later off an LAFC turnover, taking a pass from Jamiro Monteiro and scoring just outside the 6-yard box with his left foot.

Ebobisse completed his brace in the 31st minute on another left-footed shot off Cristian Espinoza’s corner kick. The goals boosted Ebobisse’s total to a team-leading nine on the season.
