Los Angeles FC striker Carlos Vela is bracing for the future with his current contract set to expire at the end of the month.
Vela, 33, has two matches remaining on the deal: June 26 against the New York Red Bulls and June 29 against FC Dallas. Both games are at home.
“I think we created a really good team, we are doing pretty well,” Vela said on Saturday. “I feel good to be here. I enjoy to play in L.A. with our fans. And of course I have that thing in mind, to win a trophy with this club. So my head is always focused on that.
“But in the end, this is business. We are working on that, but I’m open to be here. But if it’s not working, and this thing (does) not happen, I’m also open to leave and find another place. Football is like that. Life is like that. It’s nothing to complain, just see if in the end if we can make the deal or not.”
Vela has six goals and three assists in 14 matches (12 starts) this season. The 2019 MLS Most Valuable Player has 63 goals and 38 assists in 100 games (88 starts) since joining LAFC in 2018.
Los Angeles FC (9-3-3, 30 points) currently have the best record in the league.
