The New York Yankees acquired three right-handed pitchers in a pair of trades Monday, landing starter Frankie Montas and reliever Lou Trivino from the Oakland Athletics and reliever Scott Effross from the Chicago Cubs.

The Yankees, who previously traded for outfielder Andrew Benintendi, moved to bolster their rotation and bullpen the day before the MLB trade deadline.

In exchange for Montas and Trivino, the Yankees sent Oakland four prospects: left-handed pitchers Ken Waldichuk and JP Sears, right-hander Luis Medina and second baseman Cooper Bowman. Sears has played seven games in the majors this year, while the other three have yet to make their debuts.

Montas, 29, was 4-9 with a 3.18 ERA in 19 starts during his sixth season with the Athletics. He has struck out 109 batters across 104 2/3 innings. He finished sixth in American League Cy Young voting last season, when he went 13-9 with a 3.37 ERA and 207 strikeouts over 32 starts.

Trivino, 30, has a career 4.04 ERA and 36 saves over five seasons with Oakland. Trivino is 1-6 with a career-worst 6.47 ERA this season across 39 appearances, with 45 strikeouts in 32 innings of work.

Earlier Monday, the Yankees acquired Effross from the Cubs in exchange for minor league right-hander Hayden Wesneski, who was ranked as the Yankees’ No. 7 prospect by MLB Pipeline.

Effross, 28, is 1-4 with a 2.66 ERA, one save and 13 holds in 47 games (one start) this season.

Effross has struck out 50 batters and walked 11 in 44 innings.

Wesneski, 24, was a sixth-round pick by New York in 2019. He is 6-7 with a 3.51 ERA in 19 starts this season at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, striking out 83 batters and walking 28 in 89 2/3 innings.

Trivino and Effross join a Yankees bullpen that lost right-hander Chad Green to Tommy John surgery in May and right-hander Michael King to a broken elbow in July.

Montas joins the Yankees’ rotation at a time when righty Luis Severino is on the injured list with tightness in his throwing shoulder.
