The New York Yankees placed All-Star left-hander Nestor Cortes on the 15-day injured list Thursday with a groin strain.

The team also reinstated outfielder/designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton from the 10-day injured list, called up Triple-A closer Greg Weissert and transferred outfielder Harrison Bader to the 60-day IL.

Cortes, 27, last pitched Sunday, allowing one run on three hits in six innings of New York’s 4-2 win against Toronto. His IL designation is retroactive to Monday.

Cortes made his first All-Star team this season and is 9-4 with a 2.68 ERA in 23 starts. He has 133 strikeouts in 131 innings.

Stanton, 32, has not played for the Yankees since July 23 due to a left Achilles injury. He appeared in two games at Double-A Somerset on a rehab assignment, going 0-for-7 with three strikeouts.

The five-time All-Star and former National League MVP is batting .228 with 24 homers and 61 RBIs in 80 games for the Yankees this season.

Weissert, 27, has yet to appear in a major league game. He’s 2-1 with a 1.76 ERA and 18 saves in 40 appearances this season at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Bader, 28, was acquired in an Aug. 2 trade with the St. Louis Cardinals and has yet to play for New York. The Gold Glove winner has been on the injured list since June 27 with plantar fasciitis in his right foot.
