New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge, who missed a second consecutive game on Tuesday due to a toe ailment, will be placed on the 10-day injured list.

Manager Aaron Boone made the announcement after the Yankees’ 3-2 loss to the Chicago White Sox. Judge has a bruise and a sprained ligament in his right big toe, but no bones are broken.

“The biggest thing now is trying to get the swelling out of there,” Boone said. “He had some improvements (Tuesday), but now we’ll see where he is in the coming days and then week. But the biggest thing is getting the swelling out of there.”

Judge, 31, injured his big right toe making a catch against the fence at Dodger Stadium on Saturday. He skipped Sunday’s series finale, and the Yankees had a scheduled off day on Monday.

The reigning American League MVP spent time on the 10-day IL in late April and May due to a hip injury.

In 49 games this season, Judge has hit an AL-leading 19 home runs with 10 doubles and 40 RBIs. His .674 slugging percentage and 1.078 on-base-plus-slugging percentage lead the majors.

The Yankees also plan to place left-hander Nestor Cortes on the IL due to a left shoulder strain. Cortes, who last pitched on May 30, got a cortisone shot on Tuesday and might not throw a ball for two weeks, according to the YES Network.

Cortes, 28, is 5-2 with a 5.16 ERA through 11 starts this year.
