New York Yankees right-hander Luis Gil continued his rehab with his second start for Double-A Somerset on Friday night at Hartford, Conn.
Gil, 27, struck out seven batters and scattered two runs on two hits and two walks in 3 1/3 innings against Hartford. He threw 39 of his 57 pitches for strikes.
The reigning American League Rookie of the Year is on the 60-day injured list with a left lat strain sustained during spring training.
Originally expected to return by June, Gil did not make his first rehab appearance until last Sunday. He pitched 3 1/3 innings for Somerset against New Hampshire and allowed one run on two hits, striking out six and walking one.
Gil threw 50 pitches in that game and touched 97 mph with his fastball.
Gil went 15-7 with a 3.50 ERA in 29 starts for the Yankees last season. He is 16-8 with a 3.55 ERA in 36 starts since his MLB debut with New York in 2021.
