New York Yankees right-hander Frankie Montas will undergo surgery on his throwing shoulder next week, manager Aaron Boone announced Wednesday.
The surgery is scheduled for Tuesday.
“The best case is he’d be back late in the season, but we’re really gonna know a lot after (Tuesday) when (the surgeons) know specifically what they have to do in there,” Boone said. “If it’s just a scope, there’s potential he could be back late in the year.”
Montas, who turns 30 next month, was acquired from the Oakland Athletics on Aug 1. He posted a 1-3 record with a 6.35 ERA in eight starts with the Yankees before aggravating the shoulder injury on Sept. 16.
In seven major league seasons, Montas is 36-35 with a 3.90 ERA in 129 appearances (99 starts) for the Chicago White Sox, Athletics and Yankees.
