Xavier Edwards had four hits, including a major-league-record-tying three triples, and four RBIs to help the visiting Miami Marlins defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 15-5 on Friday night.

Jonah Bride added a two-run home run and a solo shot for the Marlins (60-100). Griffin Conine added a solo shot in the opener of a three-game series.

Ernie Clement homered, and Alejandro Kirk went 2-for-5, extending his hitting streak to 18 games, for Toronto (74-86).

Toronto right-hander Jose Berrios (16-11) failed to earn his 100th career win, allowing six runs, six hits and three walks in three innings. He struck out four.

Miami right-hander Adam Oller (2-4) allowed four runs, eight hits and two walks in five innings. He struck out three.

Miami led 3-0 after the first. Connor Norby singled and scored on Jesus Sanchez’s double to center. Bride followed with a two-run shot to left.

The Marlins pushed the lead to 5-0 in the second. Former Blue Jay Otto Lopez singled, Kyle Stowers walked and Edwards tripled into the right field corner to drive in both runners.

Miami added one in the third. Sanchez walked, took third on Lopez’s two-out single and scored on a wild pitch.

The Blue Jays answered with three runs in the bottom of the third. Leo Jimenez blooped a single to right and George Springer walked. Nathan Lukes stroked an RBI double to right, and Spencer Horwitz hit a two-run single to cut Toronto’s deficit to 6-3.

Miami scored three in the fourth against Easton Lucas. Edward tripled to right and scored on Jake Burger’s single. Sanchez and Bride each walked, and Conine broke his bat on a two-run bloop single to right to make it 9-3.

Clement led off the bottom of the fourth with his 12th homer to trim the deficit to 9-4.

Marlins reliever Anthony Veneziano hit Jonatan Clase with a pitch to lead off the sixth. Jimenez singled and Lukes walked to load the bases with one out. Mike Baumann replaced Veneziano and gave up a sacrifice fly to Vladimir Guerrero Jr., cutting the Marlins’ lead to 9-5. Baumann struck out Horwitz to end the inning.

Conine led off the seventh with his third homer of the season against Lucas. Former Marlin Brett de Geus took over and walked Lopez and Stowers. Edwards hit a two-run triple, Norby followed with an RBI single and Burger pushed the lead to 14-5 with an RBI double.

Ryan Burr allowed Bride’s 11th homer to lead off the eighth to give the Blue Jays a 15-5 lead.

Toronto catcher Tyler Heineman pitched the ninth and allowed a single in a scoreless inning.

Miami manager Skip Schumaker will leave the team for the final two games of the season because of a family health issue.
