Brent Suter struck out two during a perfect eighth and Buck Farmer gave up one hit in the ninth for Cincinnati.

Blaze Alexander had a two-run single and Kevin Newman reached base three times on two hits and a walk for the Diamondbacks, who lost for just the third time in nine games.

Arizona’s Slade Cecconi (1-3) was charged with six runs and seven hits over 5 2/3 innings. He struck out three and walked one.

Cincinnati knotted the score at 2 in the top of the fourth inning en route to beating the Diamondbacks for the first time in five meetings this season.

Mike Ford singled with one out and Stephenson followed with a double. Fraley hit a sacrifice fly to score one run and Candelario added an RBI single to center.

Benson put the Reds ahead in the fifth inning with his fifth homer of the season. Conner Capel led off the frame with a single off Cecconi and one out later, Benson barely cleared the wall in right-center with a 388-foot, two-run blast.

Cincinnati had two runners on with two outs in the sixth when Logan Allen replaced Cecconi. Pinch hitters Santiago Espinal and Stuart Fairchild both greeted him with RBI singles to give the Reds a 6-2 lead.

Cincinnati’s Elly De La Cruz stole his major league-leading 26th base of the season in the ninth.

Arizona struck in the third inning as Jake McCarthy led off with a double and Newman followed with a walk. Two outs later, Alexander delivered a two-run single to right.
