Tristan Peters knocked in the winning run with a two-out single in the 10th inning Friday afternoon and the Chicago White Sox defeated the visiting Toronto Blue Jays 5-4.

The White Sox won their home opener after a 1-5 road trip to start the season.

Toronto scored the go-ahead run in the 10th against Seranthony Dominguez (1-1) when automatic runner Davis Schneider scored after third baseman Miguel Vargas made an errant throw on George Springer’s two-out grounder.

With Jeff Hoffman (1-1) pitching in the bottom of the inning, Toronto catcher Alejandro Kirk took a foul ball off his left hand and exited the game with one out and an automatic runner at third. Tyler Heineman took over behind the plate.

Derek Hill tied the game with two out with a bunt single and took second on Heineman’s throwing error. Peters singled to right to end the game.

Andres Gimenez hit a two-run homer for the Blue Jays to tie the game at 3 in the eighth inning.

After opener Grant Taylor hurled a perfect top of the first, the White Sox scored once in the bottom of the inning.

Former White Sox righty Dylan Cease walked leadoff hitter Chase Meidroth on four pitches. Munetaka Murakami singled to put runners at the corners. Meidroth scored on Vargas’s grounder to first when Cease dropped Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s feed.

Toronto tied the game against Sean Burke in the second. Addison Barger doubled against the right field wall on a drive that just eluded Peters and scored on Kirk’s soft double to left.

Chicago took a 3-1 lead in the third. Vargas walked and Colson Montgomery followed with an infield hit to third. After a double steal, Austin Hays stroked a two-run single to left.

Cease was replaced by Braydon Fisher after Montgomery walked with one out in the fifth.

Cease allowed three runs (two earned), five hits and three walks with six strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings.

Burke retired 10 in a row before Guerrero blooped a two-out single to center in the sixth.

Burke allowed one run, four hits and no walks while striking out seven in six innings before Jordan Leasure replaced him in the eighth.

Ernie Clement opened the eighth by grounding a single up the middle and Gimenez homered down the right field line.
