Michael A. Taylor, a 2019 World Series champion and 2021 Gold Glove winner, is retiring following Sunday’s Chicago White Sox game in Washington.

Taylor, 34, announced that he will be making his final MLB appearance in the place he enjoyed his most professional success. A sixth-round draft pick of the Nationals in 2009, Taylor went up to play seven seasons for the Nats. His sixth, in which he batted .250 over 53 games, resulted in Washington’s 4-3 World Series win over the Houston Astros.

“To be able to play my last games of my career here in this ballpark in front of these fans, it’s just the icing on the cake,” Taylor told The Washington Post.

After joining the Royals in 2021, he quickly earned his only Gold Glove. He played one more year in Kansas City before playing a single season with the Minnesota Twins, Pittsburgh Pirates and White Sox.

Taylor has batted .199 for Chicago this season in 321 plate appearances over 133 games.

He is scheduled to bat ninth and play center field against his former team Sunday.
