MLB News: Trevor Bauer’s agents shopping for MLB comeback

Agents for former Cy Young Award winner Trevor Bauer reportedly are meeting with major league teams in hopes of a comeback in 2024.

MLB Network reported Wednesday night that agents Jon Fetterolf and Rachel Luba are shopping the 32-year-old right-hander’s services to prospective employers.

Bauer went 10-4 with a 2.76 ERA for the Japan’s Yokohama BayStars last season while serving an MLB suspension for allegedly violating the league’s domestic violence policy.

Last month, Bauer and the woman who accused him of sexual assault in 2021 settled their legal disputes without any money exchanging hands.

MLB originally suspended Bauer for a record 324 games in April 2022. A neutral arbitrator reduced his suspension to 194 games in December 2022. The Los Angeles Dodgers then released him in January of this year.

Bauer and the woman both said they engaged in sexual activity twice during the pitcher’s debut season with the Dodgers. Bauer claims it was consensual and that he didn’t do anything the woman didn’t ask him to do.

A Los Angeles judge denied the woman’s request for a restraining order in the summer of 2021, and the district attorney’s office later declined to press charges.

“Over the last two years, I’ve been forced to defend my integrity and my reputation in a very public setting, but hopefully this is the last time I have to do so, as I prefer to just remain focused on doing my job: winning baseball games and entertaining fans around the world,” Bauer said when the dispute was settled in October. “So today, I’m happy to be moving on with my life.”

Bauer was 8-5 with a 2.59 ERA in 17 starts for the Dodgers in 2021. The 2020 National League Cy Young winner is 83-69 with a 3.79 ERA in 222 games (212 starts) with Arizona (2012), Cleveland (2013-19), Cincinnati (2019-20) and Los Angeles.
