The Detroit Tigers acquired veteran right-hander Charlie Morton from the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday in exchange for minor league left-hander Micah Ashman.

In a separate transaction, the Orioles acquired lefty Dietrich Enns from the Tigers for cash considerations.

Morton, 41, has pitched for six different major league teams over 18 years, including this first season with Baltimore. After a rough beginning with the Orioles, Morton went 7-1 with a 3.88 ERA in his last 11 starts since May 26 with an average of 9.1 strikeouts per nine innings.

Overall, he was 7-8 with a 5.42 ERA, 48 walks and 101 strikeouts in 101 1/3 innings over 23 games (17 starts).

A two-time All-Star, Morton has a career record of 145-131 with a 4.08 ERA, 835 walks and 2,148 strikeouts in 2,227 innings over 406 games (399 starts). Morton also has a 7-5 mark with a 3.60 ERA, 33 walks and 92 strikeouts in 18 postseason games (17 starts) for Pittsburgh, Houston, Tampa Bay and Atlanta — winning the World Series with the Astros in 2017 and Braves in 2021.

Morton has pitched for Atlanta (2008, 2021-24), Pittsburgh (2009-15), Philadelphia (2016), Houston (2017-18), Tampa Bay (2019-20) and Baltimore.

Ashman, 22, was an 11th-round draft pick by Detroit in 2024 out of the University of Utah. He is a combined 4-3 with four saves, a 1.49 ERA, nine walks and 50 strikeouts in 42 1/3 innings over 30 relief appearances for the Tigers’ Double-A and High-A affiliates.

Enns, 34, was 1-1 with a 5.60 ERA, four walks and 15 strikeouts in 17 2/3 innings over seven games (two starts) with Detroit this season. He is a career 3-1 with a 4.30 ERA, 11 walks and 42 strikeouts in 44 innings over 18 games (three starts) with the Minnesota Twins (2017), Tampa Bay (2021) and Detroit (2025).
