Joey Ortiz hit a tie-breaking grand slam in the sixth inning to help the visiting Milwaukee Brewers to a 7-2 win against the New York Mets on Wednesday afternoon in the opener of their four-game series, which was postponed by rain a night earlier.

Isaac Collins went 4-for-4 with a walk and a solo home run and Sal Frelick had two hits, including a solo homer for Milwaukee, which has won five of six.

Brewers starter Freddy Peralta (9-4) won his fourth consecutive start after allowing two runs and two hits over six innings, striking out six and walking one.

Mets right-hander Clay Holmes went 5 1/3 innings, allowing two runs and three hits. He struck out one and walked four.

The Mets have lost four in a row and 14 of the last 17 games.

Holmes brought a 2-1 lead into the sixth inning but walked the leadoff batter before departing after getting a fly out. Brice Turang then greeted reliever Reed Garrett (2-4) with an opposite-field double down the left field line, scoring Christian Yelich from first to tie it 2-2.

Collins followed with a line-drive single to left-center, putting runners on the corners with one out. Jake Bauers walked to load the bases, bringing up Ortiz, who had grounded into an inning-ending double play earlier in the game with the bases loaded.

This time he pulled a full-count pitch over the fence in left for a grand slam and a 6-2 lead.

Collins led off the eighth with another home run to extend the lead to 7-2.

Nick Mears and DL Hall combined for three innings of shutout relief for Milwaukee.

Frelick hit the second pitch of the game over the fence in right to give the Brewers a 1-0 lead.

Peralta retired the side in order in the first two innings but then hit Jeff McNeil with a pitch to start the third. Luis Torrens followed with a single to right to put runners on the corners with no outs and Brett Baty brought McNeil home with a sacrifice fly to tie it 1-1.

The Mets took a 2-1 lead in the fourth after Juan Soto walked on four pitches to start the inning, stole second and came home on a two-strike single up the middle by Pete Alonso.
