Tanner Scott retired Aaron Judge with the bases loaded in the ninth inning to finish a five-out save as the visiting Miami Marlins held on for a 5-2 victory over the New York Yankees on Wednesday night.

The Marlins won for the second time in their first 13 games. Miami avoided becoming the first team to open with at least 12 losses in 13 games since the 2003 Detroit Tigers.

Jake Burger hit a three-run home run in a four-run third off New York’s Marcus Stroman (1-1) as Miami averted a sweep in the three-game series.

Stroman began the third inning by walking Nick Gordon and allowing a single to Nick Fortes. Luis Arraez drove in Gordon with a single and Arraez and Fortes scored on Burger’s homer. The Marlins added a run in the ninth when Tim Anderson scored from second on a throwing error by New York shortstop Anthony Volpe.

The Yankees’ Giancarlo Stanton hit a solo homer in the sixth and Juan Soto added an RBI double in the eighth. Soto walked against Scott to load the bases in the ninth, but Judge flied out to center field as Scott earned his first save of the season.

New York had a four-game winning streak stopped and was unable to match the 2003 team for the best 13-game start in team history at 11-2.

The Yankees were also frustrated with plate umpire John Bacon’s strike zone most of the night, and manager Aaron Boone was ejected in the seventh inning after arguing a called strike to Alex Verdugo.

Miami’s Ryan Weathers (1-1) gave up just three hits in five scoreless innings. He struck out one and walked three. The left-hander allowed baserunners in each of the first four innings.

Weathers ended the first by retiring Stanton on a popup after Judge walked, and he got Verdugo to ground into an inning-ending double play in the second. He stranded two in the third and two more in the fourth by retiring Judge and Jon Berti, respectively.

Stroman yielded four runs on four hits in five innings. The right-hander struck out seven and walked four.

Bryan Hoeing gave up Stanton’s homer before finishing the sixth. Anthony Bender permitted Soto’s RBI double in the eighth before striking out Judge on a checked swing. Scott then entered with a runner on second and one out. After a walk to Stanton, he got Anthony Rizzo to pop out before fanning Gleyber Torres.
