Michael Snyder hit a solo home run deep to left with one out in the bottom of the ninth, allowing a Miami Marlins split squad to come back from six runs down to tie a visiting Washington Nationals split squad 9-9 in a spring training shootout Monday in Jupiter, Fla.
Stone Garrett hit a pinch-hit grand slam in the fourth inning for the Nationals to break out to a 7-1 lead. Jesus Sanchez homered in the bottom half before Miami scored four in the fifth on a throwing error, a sacrifice fly, a single by Dane Myers and a wild pitch.
Mitchell Parker went four innings in his start for Washington, yielding two runs on four hits with four strikeouts. Matt Mervis and Sanchez homered off Parker.
Sandy Alcantara pitched 2 2/3 innings for the Marlins, giving up two unearned runs on four hits with three strikeouts. Washington’s Keibert Ruiz homered off Miami’s first reliever, William Kempner.
Yankees 10, Tigers 2
Austin Wells, Paul Goldschmidt and Trent Grisham smacked solo homers off Kenta Maeda in the first inning and New York rolled past visiting Detroit in Tampa, Fla.
Reserves Jacob Morales and Alexander Vargas added home runs in the latter innings to pile on. Will Warren (3-0) allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits and a walk in 3 2/3 innings.
Gleyber Torres had a two-run double against his former team to provide the Tigers’ only scoring. Maeda (0-2) was dinged for five runs on seven hits over four innings. He fanned five without a walk.
Rays 4, Braves 3
Brandon Lowe hit a two-run shot and Tampa Bay held off host Atlanta in North Port, Fla.
Joe Boyle (1-0) gave up two runs on two hits and two walks, striking out four in his three-inning start for the Rays. Carson Williams and Jose Caballero drove in runs in the fourth to make it 4-2.
Bryan De La Cruz cut it to 4-3 in the sixth on a run-scoring groundout, but the Braves could not get closer. Matt Olson also had an RBI. Chris Sale (0-1) was charged with four runs on five hits and two walks in 3 1/3 innings.
Blue Jays 8, Astros 3
Bo Bichette (solo) and Addison Barger (two-run HR) went deep for Toronto as it rallied from a 3-0 deficit to defeat visiting Houston in Dunedin, Fla.
The key to the Blue Jays’ four-run sixth was Ernie Clement’s two-run double that put the Jays in front. Reliever Nick Sandlin (1-0) was credited with the win for a two-strikeout inning and Jake Bloss struck out five in a three-inning save.
Jake Meyers hit a solo shot for the Astros, who scored all their runs in the third. Nick Hernandez (0-1) earned all four runs in the sixth on a walk and three hits.
Phillies 4, Twins 1
Kody Clemens had a triple among his two hits as visiting Philadelphia scored all of its runs in the second inning and held on to beat Minnesota in Fort Myers, Fla.
Clemens’ triple was the Phillies’ only extra-base hit, but they had nine singles, including by Cal Stevenson (one RBI), Rafael Lantigua (two) and Bryson Stott (one) in the second. Starter Seth Johnson (1-0) threw two innings with a hit and a walk.
The Twins ended the shutout bid in the ninth on Anthony Prato’s run-scoring flyout. Starter Pablo Lopez (0-3) gave up four runs on eight hits and three walks in three innings, striking out two.
Dodgers 6, Diamondbacks 2
Freddie Freeman hit a two-run double in the first inning and host Los Angeles never looked back in a win over Arizona in Phoenix.
Teoscar Hernandez added an RBI double, James Outman had an RBI triple and Tommy Edman and Hyeseong Kim scored two runs apiece for the Dodgers. Yoshinobu Yamamoto (1-0) struck out seven in a five-inning start, yielding one run on four hits and a walk.
D-backs starter John Curtiss (0-2) lasted just 2/3 of an inning after yielding three hits and a walk. Gabriel Moreno had a solo homer.
White Sox 10, Athletics 3
Kyle Teel went 3-for-5 with an RBI double and a two-run homer as Chicago powered past the host A’s in Mesa, Ariz.
William Bergolla Jr. drove in runs in the fourth (double), fifth (infield single) and seventh (sacrifice fly) for the White Sox, who had 12 hits. Josh Rojas went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Miguel Vargas had two RBIs. Martin Perez (1-1) scattered one run and three hits over a three-inning start.
Max Schuemann went 2-for-3 with a two-run double for the A’s, while starter Luis Severino (0-1) struck out four while yielding two runs on three hits in three frames.
Cubs 7, Guardians 4
Matt Shaw was one of five Chicago players with an RBI single and Darius Hill added a ninth-inning solo shot in a comeback win over host Cleveland in Goodyear, Ariz.
The Guardians scored all four of their runs in the second before the Cubs rallied. Shaw, Hill, Gage Workman and James Triantos had two hits apiece as Chicago racked up 15 safeties. Jordan Wicks (1-0) ate up four scoreless innings with three hits after Shota Imanaga’s 4 1/3-inning start.
Lane Thomas led off the second with a solo homer and Juan Brito added a three-run homer off Imanaga later in the inning for the Guardians. Jack Leftwich (0-2) took the loss after giving up two runs (one earned) in the seventh.
Guardians 5, Royals 2
Will Wilson and Jose Devers homered to build a 5-0 lead as Cleveland’s split squad defeated host Kansas City in Surprise, Ariz.
Wilson had a two-run shot and added an RBI single for the Guardians. Ben Lively (2-0) had three strikeouts and gave up three hits in a four-inning start.
Harold Castro had an RBI for the Royals. Starter Kris Bubic (1-1) yielded two runs and three hits in three frames.
Reds 9, Padres 3
Jeimer Candelario hit a two-run homer in a three-run first inning for Cincinnati, which racked up 12 hits in a win over host San Diego in Peoria, Ariz.
TJ Friedl and Ricardo Cabrera added two-run singles for the Reds. Hunter Greene (1-1) struck out five and limited the Padres to one run on two hits in four innings.
Fernando Tatis Jr. and Gavin Sheets hit solo home runs for the Padres. Michael King (0-1) lasted 2 2/3 innings, giving up three runs on three hits and three walks.
Angels 12, Rockies 3
Kyren Paris hit the go-ahead solo home run and prompted an eight-run seventh inning as Los Angeles broke out for a win over visiting Colorado in Tempe, Ariz.
Samuel Brown had a grand slam in the seventh and finished 2-for-2 with five RBIs for the Angels. Reid Detmers (2-1) threw the final four innings and held the Rockies scoreless on four hits with four strikeouts.
Zac Veen, Owen Miller and Michael Toglia drove in the Rockies’ runs. Carson Palmquist (0-1) managed just one out in the seventh while giving up four runs on two hits and a walk.
Giants 8, Rockies 2
Logan Webb struck out five batters in 4 2/3 innings and Hayden Birdsong threw three hitless innings with four strikeouts for the save as visiting San Francisco cruised past Colorado’s split squad in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Grant McCray went 2-for-3 with two runs, Casey Schmitt had a pair of sacrifice flies and Victor Bericoto capped the Giants’ day with a two-run double. Webb (2-0) scattered five hits and two runs.
Ezequiel Tovar homered and Austin Nola hit an RBI double for the Rockies. German Marquez (0-1) was tagged for four runs on five hits and three walks in 2 1/3 frames.
Brewers 7, Mariners 5
Joey Ortiz hit a key three-run triple to help Milwaukee defeat visiting Seattle in Phoenix.
Ortiz went 2-for-3 and his bases-clearing triple gave the Brewers a 7-3 lead in the third. Harry Ford (double) and Anthony Donofrio (groundout) brought the Mariners within two in the seventh, but they got no closer.
Mitch Garver homered in the first for the Mariners. Austin Kitchen (0-1) took the loss after giving up four runs while getting the final two outs in th third. Christian Yelich homered in the bottom of the first and Kaleb Bowman (1-0) was credited with the win.
Orioles 6, Pirates 3
Sam Basallo’s three-run homer powered Baltimore to a victory over Pittsburgh in Bradenton, Fla.
Jordan Westburg added two hits and an RBI and Ramon Urias had two hits and a run for the Orioles. Daz Cameron hit a two-run single, and Baltimore starter Matt Bowman (1-1) struck out four in 1 2/3 scoreless innings.
Bryan Reynolds’ two hits included an RBI single, and Isiah Kiner-Falefa also went 2-for-3 for the Pirates.
Mets 8, Cardinals 0
Griffin Canning and six relievers combined on a three-hit shutout as New York blanked St. Louis in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
Canning tossed 3 2/3 innings, yielding one hit and no walks while fanning five. Luis Torrens, Juan Soto and Mark Vientos homered for the Mets.
Cardinals starter Sonny Gray was tagged for four runs on six hits and a walk in four innings. He struck out four.
Marlins (ss) 10, Nationals (ss) 5
Albert Almora Jr. went 4-for-5 with two RBIs and three runs as a Miami split squad defeated a Washington split squad in West Palm Beach, Fla.
Graham Pauley added three hits, three runs and two RBIs for the Marlins, who got a solo homer from Connor Norby. Ronny Simon contributed a pair of run-scoring singles.
CJ Abrams and Andres Chaparro each logged three hits for the Nationals, while Riley Adams homered.
