MLB News: Spring training roundup: Aaron Judge’s 2 homers lead Yankees past Tigers 20-3

Aaron Judge homered twice, drove in four runs and scored two Saturday afternoon to power the host New York Yankees to a 20-3 rout of the Detroit Tigers in a spring training game in Tampa, Fla.

Judge, who won the American League MVP Award last season after getting 53 homers and 114 RBIs — hit a two-run homer in the third inning and a two-run shot in the fourth Saturday for the Yankees, who banged out 18 hits and scored three runs in the fourth and nine in the eighth.

Roderick Arias hit a grand slam for the Yankees in the eighth and went 2-for-3, while Paul Goldschmidt finished with two hits and two RBIs and Jackson Castillo added a three-run homer in the eighth.

Corey Julks hit a solo home run for Detroit in the third inning.

Blue Jays 3, Phillies 0

Daulton Varsho went 2-for-2, including a solo homer, to lead defending AL champion Toronto past visiting Philadelphia in Dunedin, Fla.

Sean Keys hit a two-run homer for the Blue Jays, who finished with nine hits.

Justin Crawford went 2-for-3 for the Phillies.

Pirates 8, Orioles 2

Ryan O’Hearn’s three-run homer highlighted a six-run fifth inning that carried visiting Pittsburgh to the easy victory over Baltimore in Sarasota, Fla.

Endy Rodriguez also homered for the Pirates, a two-run shot in the fifth.

For Baltimore, which gave up only five hits but committed two errors, Blaze Alexander and Leody Taveras each went 1-for-2 with a run scored.

Red Sox 7, Twins 2

Mikey Romero had two hits and two RBIs to pace Boston to the win over host Minnesota in Fort Myers, Fla.

Andruw Monasterio hit a solo home run for the Red Sox, and Allan Castro contributed two RBIs.

The Twins, who committed four errors, were led by Royce Lewis’ two hits and two RBIs, including a solo homer.

Braves 5, Rays 1

Ben Gamel homered, doubled, walked, scored twice and drove in three runs as Atlanta beat host Tampa Bay in Port Charlotte, Fla.

The Braves scored all of their runs in the first three innings, highlighted by a three-run third.

For the Rays, who outhit Atlanta 9-7, Logan Davidson had a solo home run.

Marlins 2, Mets 1

Jakob Marsee scored twice to lead visiting Miami past New York in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Each team had only two hits. Marsee scored the winning run in the sixth inning, on a sacrifice fly by Christopher Morel.

The Mets’ only hits were singles by Kevin Villavicencio and Austin Barnes.

Nationals (ss) 2, Astros 1

Jorgelys Mota’s solo homer in the sixth inning lifted a Washington split squad over visiting Houston in West Palm Beach, Fla.

Nationals starting pitcher Jake Eder gave up one run and two hits in two innings, and seven relievers shut out the Astros the rest of the way.

Nick Allen knocked in Houston’s only run, on a single in the second inning.

Nationals (ss) 6, Cardinals 2

Maxwell Romero Jr.’s three-run homer led a four-run fifth inning that carried Washington’s split squad past host St. Louis in Jupiter, Fla.

Trey Lipscomb had two hits and an RBI for the Nationals, who went 4-for-8 with runners in scoring position.

For the Cardinals, Nathan Church hit a solo home run.

Dodgers 15, Angels 2

Teoscar Hernandez went 3-for-3 with three runs and the Los Angeles Dodgers scored nine runs in the first two innings on the way to a victory over the host Los Angeles Angels in Tempe, Ariz.

Hyeseong Kim contributed two hits and three RBIs while Andy Pages and Ryan Fitzgerald also notched two hits. Shohei Ohtani led off and posted a single in three at bats. Yoshinobu Yamamato (1-0), last year’s World Series MVP, allowed three hits and two runs (one earned) with three strikeouts in his 1 1/3-inning start.

Angels starter Jose Soriano (0-1) could not get out of the first as he gave up four runs, three hits and two walks with two strikeouts in two-thirds of an inning. Jorge Soler went 2-for-2 with a double and Logan O’Hoppe (1-for-1) was credited with the Angels’ lone RBI.

Rockies 11, Diamondbacks 6

Leadoff man Brenton Doyle went 3-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs to lead visiting Colorado past Arizona in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Ryan Ritter posted two hits, two runs and two RBIs and Adael Amador cracked a solo homer for the Rockies, who scored five runs in the second inning on the way to a 9-1 lead. Starter Tanner Gordon (1-0) fanned three batters in his lone inning of work.

Infielder-turned-center fielder Jordan Lawlar poked a home run for the Diamondbacks while Tommy Troy went 2-for-2 with a double, run and RBI. Starter Mitch Bratt (0-1) surrendered three hits and three runs (two earned) in 1 1/3 innings.

Padres 10, Royals 3

Jose Miranda came off the bench and went 3-for-3 with four RBIs to propel San Diego past host Kansas City in Surprise, Ariz.

San Diego held a 4-3 edge before producing two runs in the eighth and four in the ninth. Nick Solak poked the game’s lone homer in the eighth as part of a 2-for-2 day. Samad Taylor and Carlos Rodriguez added two hits apiece as part of the Padres’ 18-hit attack. Miguel Mendez (1-0) was credited with the win despite allowing two runs, two hits and two walks in 1 1/3 innings. Mendez fanned two.

Dairon Blanco went 2-for-2 with a double and Bobby Witt Jr. rapped a single to account for the Royals starters’ lone hits. Ben Kudrna (0-1) entered in the fifth and surrendered six hits, four runs and two walks in 1 2/3 innings.

Giants 10, Mariners 5

Host Seattle broke out to a 5-0 lead in the first, but San Francisco reeled off the last 10 runs to claim the win in Peoria, Ariz.

Harrison Bader, Tyler Fitzgerald, Nate Furman and Jake Holton drove in two runs apiece in Tony Vitello’s debut as Giants manager. Caleb Kilian (1-0) pitched a scoreless sixth, but starter Hayden Birdsong retired just one batter while allowing five runs, three hits and two walks.

Miles Mastrobuoni smashed a grand slam to end Birdsong’s outing. He added a double in his next at-bat while Patrick Wisdom drove in the Mariners’ other run. Starter Emerson Hancock struck out four in his 1 2/3-inning stint, but one hit, one walk and one hit batsman turned into three runs. Casey Lawrence (0-1) gave up one run in two innings.

Guardians (ss) 4, Reds 2

Carter Kieboom’s two-run double in the seventh snapped a tie and gave Cleveland’s split squad the win over host Cincinnati in Goodyear, Ariz.

Gabriel Arias and David Fry added RBI doubles as Cleveland amassed six hits and seven walks. Starter Logan Allen tossed two scoreless innings with one hit, one walk and two strikeouts while Cameron Schuelke (1-0) snuffed out a seventh-inning rally by striking out the only batter he faced.

The Reds took a 2-0 lead in the third on Will Benson’s two-run blast. Edwin Arroyo cracked a double while Tyler Stephenson and Blake Dunn posted Cincinnati’s other hits. Starter Chase Burns fired two hitless innings, but walked three and fanned two. Hagen Danner (0-1) allowed Kieboom’s game-winning hit as part of his two-hit, two-run seventh.

White Sox 11, Athletics 2

Edgar Quero went 3-for-3 and drove in four runs as Chicago cruised past the visiting Athletics in Glendale, Ariz.

Brooks Baldwin delivered a solo homer and Dru Baker and William Bergolla Jr. contributed two hits and one stolen base apiece as the White Sox piled up seven extra-base hits, seven singles and five walks. Chris Murphy (1-0) handled the first two innings and allowed three hits and one run.

Brian Serven came off the bench to go 3-for-3 with two doubles and the Athletics’ lone RBI. Starter Jack Perkins (0-1) gave up two runs, two hits and two walks while getting just two outs.

Guardians (ss) 9, Brewers 6

Nolan Jones and Cooper Ingle cracked three-run homers to lead Cleveland’s split squad to the victory against host Milwaukee in Phoenix.

Jones added an RBI double while leadoff man Chase DeLauter went 2-for-3 for the Guardians, who knocked 10 hits to go with eight walks. Ryan Webb (1-0) received the win despite surrendering four hits and two runs in his 1 1/3 innings.

Brandon Lockridge’s second-inning solo shot off Guardians starter Joey Cantillo helped the Brewers jump to a 2-0 lead. Lockridge and Jackson Chourio each went 2-for-3 while David Hamilton added a two-run double. Tyson Hardin (0-1) gave up three runs in the fifth.

Rangers 3, Cubs 2

Leadoff man Sam Haggerty went 3-for-3 and drove in all three runs as Texas took down host Chicago in Mesa, Ariz.

Tyler Wade posted two hits and two runs while Justin Foscue added two hits for the Rangers. After starter Kumar Rocker yielded two hits, one run and one walk with two strikeouts in two innings, Cal Quantrill (1-0) gave up four hits, two walks and one run in 1 1/3 innings.

Twenty-year-old shortstop Jefferson Rojas went 1-for-2 with both RBIs for the Cubs. Starter Matthew Boyd allowed five hits and one run in his 1 2/3-inning stint, but he fanned four. Hoby Milner (0-1) gave up three hits and two runs in the fourth.
