MLB News: Reports: SS Carlos Correa back with Twins for $200M

Shortstop Carlos Correa and the Minnesota Twins are finalizing a six-year, $200 million contract, multiple media outlets reported on Tuesday.

Per ESPN, the deal — which is pending a physical — also has a vesting option that would add four years and $70 million.

The “pending a physical” qualifier could be significant. On two occasions this offseason, Correa was thought to be a signature away from massive contracts with the Mets and Giants. Both were reportedly derailed due to medical concerns arising from the team physical.

Correa had a tentative 12-year, $315 million agreement with the New York Mets last month after his 13-year, $350 million deal with the San Francisco Giants fell through over concerns about his surgically repaired right leg.

However, MLB Network reported Tuesday that Correa’s contract proposal from the Mets guaranteed only the first six years at around $160 million, not the entire 12-year deal.

Correa, 28, batted .291 with 22 home runs and 64 RBIs in 136 games last season with the Twins. In November, he opted out of the final two seasons of a three-year, $105.3 million deal to become a free agent.

Correa is a career .279 hitter with a .357 on-base percentage, a .479 slugging percentage, 155 home runs and 553 RBIs across 888 games with the Houston Astros (2015-21) and Twins. He won a World Series with Houston in 2017, was an All-Star in 2017 and 2021, won American League Rookie of the Year honors in 2015 and earned a Gold Glove at shortstop in 2021.
