MLB News: Reports: Red Sox, OF Adam Duvall agree to one-year deal

Outfielder Adam Duvall and the Boston Red Sox agreed to a one-year deal worth up to $10 million if he reaches performance-based incentives, multiple outlets reported Wednesday.

Duvall had 12 home runs in an injury-marred 2022 season with the Atlanta Braves. It was a major drop-off after he slugged 38 homers, led the National League with 113 RBIs and won a Gold Glove the previous season.

Duvall, 34, is recovering from a torn tendon sheath in his left wrist that ended his 2022 season on July 23.

Red Sox fans might remember Duvall for his notable three-home run game at Fenway Park in 2020 while playing for the Braves.

Adding Duvall might bring a bit of pop to an offense that lost designated hitter J.D. Martinez (Los Angeles Dodgers) and shortstop Xander Bogaerts (San Diego Padres) and could be without infielder Trevor Story most of the season. Story had reconstructive elbow surgery this month.

Boston’s other offseason additions include former Dodgers infielder Justin Turner,

A career .230 hitter, Duvall has been streaky in his career, posting a .213 batting average in 2022 but playing all three outfield positions in 86 games with Atlanta.

He had 13 hits and drove in 10 runs for the Braves in the 2021 during their playoff run. Duvall had two home runs — including a first-inning grand slam in Game 5 — with six RBIs against the Houston Astros in the World Series.

Duvall broke into the big leagues as a 25-year-old first baseman with the San Francisco Giants in 2014 and has also played for the Cincinnati Reds and Miami Marlins. He was an All-Star in 2016 in Cincinnati, belting 33 home runs and following that up with 31 homers in 2017 before being traded to the Braves.
