Buck Showalter, Ron Washington, Gary DiSarcina, Benji Gil and Ray Montgomery are the chief candidates to be the next Los Angeles Angels manager, MLB Network reported Monday.

The report said there could be one or two others considered to replace Phil Nevin, who was not retained after a 73-89 season.

The Angels declined their option on Nevin’s contract for the 2024 season on Oct. 2, starting the search process to hire their fourth skipper in six years since the departure of Mike Scioscia.

The New York Mets fired Showalter, 67, after a disappointing 75-87 finish with a massive payroll. He was 176-148 over two seasons with the Mets and is 1,727-1,665-1 in 22 seasons as a big-league manager with the New York Yankees (1992-95), Arizona Diamondbacks (1998-2000), Texas Rangers (2003-06), Baltimore Orioles (2010-18) and Mets.

Washington, 71, has been coaching with the Atlanta Braves since 2017. He managed the Rangers from 2007-14, compiling a 664-611 record with back-to-back American League pennants in 2010 and 2011.

DiSarcina, 55, has never managed in the majors. He played (1989-2000) and coached (2014-16) with the Angels before joining the coaching staffs of the Boston Red Sox (2017), Mets (2018-21) and Washington Nationals (2022-23).

Gil, 51, also played for the Angels (2000-03) and spent the last two seasons as the team’s infield coach. He has been a manager in his native Mexico and also helmed the Mexican national team that competed in the 2020 Summer Olympics and won a bronze medal at the 2023 World Baseball Classic.

Montgomery, 54, has been the bench coach for the Angels for the past two seasons.
