Tyler Stephenson knocked in the go-ahead run in the 10th inning, Jonathan India and Harrison Bader drove in two runs apiece and the visiting Cincinnati Reds topped the Detroit Tigers 6-5 on Tuesday night.

Alexis Diaz (9-4) picked up the win with a scoreless inning of relief for the Reds (75-71). Buck Farmer handled the 10th inning and earned his third save.

Cincinnati starter Brandon Williamson, activated off the COVID-19 list, gave up five runs and seven hits in four-plus innings. He walked two and struck out four as the Reds posted their second consecutive win.

Andy Ibanez homered and drove in two runs for the Tigers (66-78), who had won three of their previous four games. Kerry Carpenter also knocked in two runs.

Tigers starter Joey Wentz gave up five runs (two earned) and six hits in 2 2/3 innings. He fanned one and walked three.

Stephenson led off the 10th against Alex Lange (6-4) with a single, driving in Noelvi Marte, who was pinch-running for automatic runner Nick Martini. A double play helped Lange avoid further damage.

In the bottom of the inning, Detroit automatic runner Ibanez moved up to third on Spencer Torkelson’s leadoff flyout before getting erased at the plate on Akil Baddoo’s fielder’s-choice grounder. Farmer then struck out Carpenter to end the game.

The Tigers grabbed a 3-0 lead in the first. Ibanez provided the spark with his 11th homer of the season, a solo shot. Torkelson, Jake Rogers, Carpenter and Miguel Cabrera hit consecutive singles to account for the next two runs.

Cincinnati tied the score in the next inning. A throwing error by third baseman Zack Short allowed Stephenson to reach base, and Elly De La Cruz drew a one-out walk.

TJ Friedl’s two-out single knocked in Stephenson, and the throw from right field allowed Friedl to reach second. India brought home De La Cruz and Friedl with another single.

The Reds took a 5-3 lead with a pair of two-out runs in the third. Joey Votto walked and De La Cruz ripped a single. Bader then doubled to center, bringing in both runners.

Detroit tied it in the fifth. Matt Vierling led off with a walk and scored on Ibanez’s double, ending Williamson’s night. With two outs, Carpenter looped a single to right off Fernando Cruz to drive in Ibanez.

The Tigers’ Parker Meadows was hit by a pitch with one out in the ninth and stole second. A popout and groundout sent the game to extra innings.
