The Cincinnati Reds placed catcher Luke Maile on the injured list, while outfielder Jake Fraley went on the family medical emergency list Friday in advance of a series opener at home against the Detroit Tigers.

Catcher Austin Wynns was selected from Triple-A Louisville as was infielder Edwin Rios. Infielder/outfielder Levi Jordan was designated for assignment.

Maile went to the IL with a herniated disc in his back. The 33-year-old was batting .176 with two home runs and eight RBIs in 39 games this season. He is a career .209 hitter with 21 home runs and 113 RBIs in 419 games over nine seasons with five clubs.

Fraley, 29, was batting .278 with one home run and 12 RBIs in 64 games. He is a career .245 hitter with 37 home runs and 142 RBIs in 340 games over six seasons, three each with the Seattle Mariners and Reds.

According to Reds manager David Bell, Fraley is leaving the team for a brief period to be on hand for “expected” medical treatments for his daughter.

Wynns, 33, played one game with the Reds on June 29 and had three doubles in five at-bats against the St. Louis Cardinals. He is batting .229 with 13 home runs and 62 RBIs in 232 career games over six seasons with five different clubs.

Rios, 30, is in line to make his Reds debut. He is a career .205 hitter with 21 home runs and 45 RBIs in five seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers (2019-22) and Chicago Cubs (2023).

Jordan, 28, made his major league debut June 24 and had one hit over 10 at-bats.
