Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Tyler Glasnow suffered a Grade 2 left oblique strain and will miss 6 to 8 weeks.
The team said an MRI done Tuesday revealed the severity of the injury.
Glasnow, 29, sustained the injury during a live batting practice session Monday at spring training.
Manager Kevin Cash told reporters Tuesday that the injury “bothers him to sneeze, cough.”
After undergoing Tommy John surgery in August 2021, Glasnow posted a 1.35 ERA with no decisions in two starts last season.
Glasnow is 20-20 with a 4.00 ERA in 106 career games (67 starts) with the Pittsburgh Pirates (2016-18) and Rays.
