Dane Dunning threw five scoreless innings and Corey Seager drove in a pair of runs to help lead the Texas Rangers to a 6-1 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday in Arlington, Texas.
Dunning (4-3) allowed just three hits while striking out six and walking four in guiding Texas to its third straight win.
Corbin Carroll went 3-for-5 with an RBI for Arizona, which dropped its third consecutive game.
Wyatt Langford led off the bottom of the third with a single ahead of Jonah Heim’s RBI double to give Texas a 1-0 lead.
Adolis Garica led off the fourth with a walk. Leody Taveras then singled before Nathaniel Lowe grounded into a double play, scoring Garcia for the second Rangers run.
Texas doubled its lead in the home half of the fifth when Seager launched his 13th home run of the season, a two-run shot, to give the Rangers a 4-0 advantage.
In relief of Dunning, Jose Leclerc retired the side in order in the top of the sixth. Jesus Tinoco followed with a scoreless top of the seventh for the Rangers.
Diamondbacks starter Ryne Nelson (3-4) pitched six innings of five-hit, four-run ball. He walked three and struck out three.
Tinoco retired Joc Pederson and Christian Walker to begin the eighth but was pulled for David Robertson after Lourdes Gurriel Jr.’s two-out single. Jake McCarthy greeted Robertson with a single before the 39-year-old reliever struck out pinch hitter Pavin Smith to end the threat.
In the top of the ninth, Logan Allen retired Seager before issuing a single to Josh Smith and consecutive walks to Garcia and Taveras. Lowe then drove in Josh Smith with a sacrifice fly, extending the Rangers’ lead to 5-0. After Allen was pulled for Justin Martinez, Langford capped the Texas scoring with an RBI single to drive in Garcia.
Arizona cracked the run column in the top of the ninth on Carroll’s run-scoring single off Jacob Latz. Kirby Yates came on to retire Walker for the final out of the game.
