MLB News: Rangers RHP Jon Gray fractures wrist on comebacker

Texas Rangers right-hander Jon Gray sustained a fractured right wrist after being struck by a comebacker during Friday’s spring training game against the Colorado Rockies.

Gray exited the game after he was hit by a line drive from Michael Toglia to lead off the fourth inning.

“Not good news, not good news,” manager Bruce Bochy told reporters. “It’s terrible. I feel awful for him, to be this close to getting the season going. It’s just not good news. I’ll get back in there and find out more, but right now, there is a fracture. I’ll get with (president of baseball operations Chris Young) and we’ll talk about our situation here. I don’t have anything to give you right now, but, obviously, we’re going to have to make an adjustment here.”

Injury news is nothing new for Gray, who has made trips to the injured list in each of his three seasons with the Rangers.

Gray was limited to just 102 2/3 innings in 2024 because of two groin strains and a foot neuroma that required offseason surgery. He posted a 5-6 record with a 4.47 ERA in 23 appearances (19 starts) last season.

Gray, 33, is in the final season of a four-year, $56 million contract.

He is 74-70 with a 4.45 ERA in 228 career games (223 starts) with the Colorado Rockies (2015-21) and Rangers.
