The Texas Rangers parted ways with 2023 World Series hero Adolis Garcia and catcher Jonah Heim on Friday to kickstart a revamping of the franchise.

The Rangers non-tendered both players before Friday’s deadline as part of the plan to reduce payroll. The players immediately became free agents.

Garcia and Heim were both All-Stars in 2023 when the Rangers defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks in five games in the World Series. Garcia was MVP of the American League Championship Series and famously belted a 11th-inning walk-off homer to win Game 1 of the World Series.

Right-handers Josh Sborz and Jacob Webb were also non-tendered and became free agents. Sborz also was a member of the 2023 squad.

“Regardless of what happens moving forward, Adolis, Jonah, and Josh will always be remembered for their contributions to the first World Series title in franchise history,” Rangers president of baseball operations Chris Young said in a statement. “Those memories will forever hold a special place in the hearts of Rangers fans. We are grateful for their time in Texas and the mark they have left on this franchise.”

Garcia, 32, had 141 homers and 458 RBIs in 745 games over five-plus seasons with the Rangers. The two-time All-Star outfielder had career-best figures of 39 homers and 107 RBIs in 2023 but had just 19 homers and 75 RBIs last season.

Garcia batted .323 with eight homers and 22 RBIs in 15 games during his stellar 2023 postseason run.

Heim, 30, has career bests of 18 homers and 95 RBIs in 2023, his lone All-Star season. Last season, he batted .213 with 11 homers and 43 RBIs in 124 games.

Sborz, 31, missed the 2025 season due to right shoulder surgery.

Webb, 32, was 5-4 with a 3.00 ERA in 55 relief appearances in 2025 in his lone season with Texas.

Texas agreed to a one-year deal with outfielder Sam Haggerty on Friday to avoid arbitration. The 31-year-old batted .253 with two homers and 13 RBIs in 64 games last season.

Texas has four other arbitration-eligible players: First baseman Jake Burger, third baseman Josh Jung and infielders Ezequiel Duran and Josh Smith.

The Rangers and manager Bruce Bochy mutually parted ways after the 2025 season. Skip Schumaker is the new manager.
