Pitching coach Mike Maddux is leaving the Texas Rangers and reportedly taking the same role with the Los Angeles Angels.

Maddux, 64, coached with the Rangers from 2009-15 before returning in 2023 to join then-skipper Bruce Bochy’s staff. Texas won its first World Series championship in 2023 and led the American League with a 3.41 ERA in 2025.

“The Texas Rangers are forever grateful to Mike for his contributions here,” Rangers president of baseball operations Chris Young said Friday, per ESPN. “Mike has played a major role for some of the best teams in Rangers history, including the franchise’s first World Series title in 2023. We wish him the best.”

Maddux opted to move on after the Rangers replaced Bochy, fired after an 81-81 season, with Skip Schumacher.

Maddux has also coached with the Milwaukee Brewers, Washington Nationals and St. Louis Cardinals following a 15-year major league career with nine teams from 1986-2000. The right-hander was 39-37 with 20 saves and a 4.05 ERA in 472 games (48 starts).
