The game Tuesday night between the Pittsburgh Pirates and host Detroit Tigers was postponed due to a forecast of inclement weather.
The game will be made up as part of a straight doubleheader on Wednesday starting at 12:40 p.m. ET and the second game starting about 40 minutes after Game 1’s conclusion.
Tuesday’s scheduled starters now have the assignment for Game 1 on Wednesday. Detroit veteran left-hander Tarik Skubal (6-1, 2.25 ERA) has a matchup with Pittsburgh right-hander Jared Jones (3-4, 3.05), a 22-year-old rookie.
The Pirates have moved their original Wednesday starter, rookie sensation Paul Skenes, to Game 2. The right-hander, the No. 1 overall pick out of LSU in the 2023 MLB Draft, has made three starts and is 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA, four walks and 21 strikeouts in 16 innings.
Detroit had penciled in veteran right-hander Jack Flaherty (1-4, 3.84 ERA) for Wednesday before Tuesday’s rainout. As of Tuesday evening, the Game 2 starter was to be announced. Right-hander Matt Manning (0-1, 4.88), who has pitched in each of the team’s previous three doubleheaders, could be the choice.
