David Dahl hit a solo home run and a single, Zack Wheeler tossed seven strong innings and the host Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 3-1 on Monday.

Johan Rojas added two singles and an RBI for the Phillies, and Edmundo Sosa had an RBI single.

Wheeler (7-3) allowed five hits and one run to go along with six strikeouts and three walks. He threw 114 pitches, 67 for strikes. Jeff Hoffman pitched a scoreless eighth, and Jose Alvarado logged a 1-2-3 ninth for his 10th save of the season.

Facing his former team, Rhys Hoskins hit a solo home run for the Brewers. Blake Perkins had two hits.

Milwaukee had its five-game winning streak snapped.

Brewers opener Jared Koenig threw only five pitches in a perfect first inning but was replaced by Bryse Wilson in the second. Wilson (3-2) then went 5 2/3 innings, giving up six hits and three runs while walking one and fanning one.

Hoskins, who received multiple ovations throughout the game, hit a solo shot to left-center field with two outs in the seventh inning to pull Milwaukee within 3-1.

Hoskins spent the first six seasons of his career with the Phillies, but he sat out last year with a torn ACL, then signed with the Brewers this past offseason.

With runners at first and third with two outs in the bottom of the second inning, Sosa ripped an RBI single to left field for a 1-0 Philadelphia lead. Rojas then had a run-scoring single of his own.

Jake Bauers opened the top of the third with a single to right, and Joey Ortiz followed with a walk. Perkins then singled to load the bases with no outs. However, Brice Turang bounced into a 1-2-3 double play and William Contreras struck out.

Dahl crushed his solo homer in the fourth as the Phillies went ahead 3-0.

In the fifth, Perkins hit a single to center and Rojas threw out Hoskins at the plate on the play.
