Manny Machado’s grand slam highlighted a five-run ninth inning and the San Diego Padres beat the Washington Nationals 7-2 on Friday night after losing a 2-0 lead.

Jake Cronenworth singled to lead off the inning against Kyle Finnegan (1-4) and went to third on a single by Jose Iglesias. Elias Diaz then executed his second safety squeeze bunt of the night to bring in Cronenworth and give the Padres a 3-2 edge.

Fernandos Tatis Jr. singled and Luis Arraez walked to load the bases for Machado, who homered off Finnegan to left-center.

Washington’s CJ Abrams tied the game 2-2 with a two-run homer in the eighth.

Xander Bogaerts had two hits and scored a run for the Padres, who have won four of five.

Wandy Peralta (4-1) pitched 1 1/3 innings for the win.

Jacob Young singled with one out in the eighth and Abrams followed with a homer to right-center off Jason Adam to tie the game 2-2.

San Diego starter Dylan Cease, who no-hit the Nationals on July 25 of last season, allowed four singles over 5 1/3 innings. He struck out 10 batters without a walk.

Washington’s Michael Soroka went five innings and allowed a run on three hits.

Young had two hits for Washington, which has lost five straight and nine of 10.

The Padres took a 1-0 lead in the second when Jackson Merrill singled with one out, went to third on a single by Bogaerts and scored when Cronenworth flied out.

Young led off the sixth with a bloop single to right. After Cease retired Abrams, Adrian Morejon came on and struck out Wood and got Garcia to ground out.

In the San Diego seventh, Bogaerts led off with a bloop double and went to third on a bunt single by Cronenworth. Pinch hitter Iglesias struck out, but Diaz executed a sacrifice bunt to make it 2-0.

A hit batter and a single by Nathanial Lowe put Nationals on first and second with no outs in the seventh against Jeremiah Estrada. Brady House flied out to right and Tatis threw out Josh Bell attempting to go from second to third to complete the double play. Daylen Lile struck out to end the inning.
