San Diego Padres outfielder Jurickson Profar missed Wednesday afternoon’s 5-4 victory over the Oakland Athletics due to patellar tendinitis in his left knee.
Profar exited Tuesday night’s victory over Oakland due to knee soreness. He aggravated the knee during a swing at a pitch in the eighth inning, and David Peralta entered to finish the at-bat.
“Some days it’s just really bad. Yesterday was the worst day in a while,” Profar told reporters before Wednesday’s game.
Profar delivered a two-run single in Tuesday’s contest prior to his departure.
Profar entered play on Wednesday with a .324 average that ranked second in the majors behind teammate Luis Arraez (.327). He also ranked third in on-base percentage (.424).
The 31-year-old Profar is a surprise candidate for a National League All-Star spot due to his stellar season. He has 10 homers, 12 doubles, 45 RBIs and a .500 slugging percentage in 71 games.
Profar played for the Padres from 2020-22 before signing with the Rockies prior to last season. Colorado let him go on Aug. 27, 2023, and he re-signed with San Diego four days later.
Profar was a free agent until late February, when the Padres elected to sign him to a one-year, $1 million deal. There are also bonus clauses based on plate appearances.
