MLB News: Orioles reinstate Ryan Mountcastle, place two outfielders on IL

The Baltimore Orioles have reinstated Ryan Mountcastle from the 60-day injured list and the veteran is in the starting lineup as the designated hitter on Friday against the Athletics.

The Orioles also placed a pair of outfielders on the IL. Tyler O’Neill, suffering from right wrist inflammation, will undergo his third stint off the field this season (retroactive to Aug. 6). Colton Cowser, who missed all of April and May with a broken left thumb, was placed on the seven-day concussion IL.

Both injuries occurred in collisions with outfield fences in Baltimore’s most recent series in Philadelphia. O’Neill suffered his injury on Tuesday, as he ran into the right field fence on a home run by Max Kepler and came out of the game after taking another at-bat.

Cowser crashed into the left field fence after making a running catch of a deep fly ball by Harrison Bader in the sixth inning on Wednesday. He stayed in the game.

In addition to the Mountcastle return, the Orioles also recalled outfielder Jordyn Adams from Triple-A Norfolk. Adams appeared in both games against the Cubs last weekend, but was sent back to Norfolk on Monday. He has only three at-bats in eight games played for Baltimore in 2025.

Mountcastle suffered a right hamstring injury and last played on May 30. Through 52 games, he was hitting .246 with a pair of home runs and 15 RBIs. The six-year veteran hit a combined 55 home runs and drove in 174 runs across 2021-22, but has spent part of the last three seasons on the injured list.
