Clarke Schmidt did not allow a hit in seven innings and combined with JT Brubaker on a one-hitter as the New York Yankees slugged four homers and finished with 14 hits in a 9-0 rout of the visiting Baltimore Orioles on Saturday afternoon.

Trent Grisham, J.C. Escarra, Ben Rice and Anthony Volpe hit solo homers as the Yankees scored their most runs since a 10-2 win at Kansas City on June 10. The Yankees finished with double-digit hits for the third straight game and won for only the second time in their past nine contests.

Volpe had three hits to snap a 0-for-25 skid. He stopped his slide with a soft infield hit down the third base line.

Schmidt (4-3) struck out five and walked two. He issued both walks in the first inning before retiring Ryan O’Hearn and Ramon Laureano.

Schmidt entered the seventh with 82 pitches thrown and tossed 21 in the inning to match his career high of 103 pitches. After retiring Colton Cowser to end the seventh, Brubaker replaced the right-hander.

Brubaker lost the no-hit bid when Gary Sanchez singled to open the eighth. Brubaker then pitched the ninth to finish New York’s second one-hitter this season.

Baltimore fell to 14-7 in its past 21 games as starter Zach Eflin (6-4) was tagged for six runs on 10 hits in three innings.

The Orioles’ loss comes after the team placed Adley Rutschman on the injured list with a strained left oblique. Baltimore also lost Jordan Westburg to left hand discomfort in the third.

After Schmidt stranded two in the top half of the first, Grisham lifted a 2-2 curveball off the top of the right field fence for his 15th homer. The Yankees added two in the second when Escarra and Rice homered into the second deck in right field.

New York opened a six-run lead in the third as Escarra lifted a bases-loaded sacrifice fly ball after Volpe’s infield hit. Oswald Peraza followed with a two-run infield single for a 6-0 lead, and Volpe’s homer down the right field line pushed the lead to 7-0 in the fifth.

Rice made it 8-0 with a booming triple to deep center in the sixth, and Escarra singled to left in the sixth for the final run.
