Riley Adams smacked a three-run home run, and the visiting Washington Nationals scorched Sean Manaea for eight runs in the first three innings en route to an 11-6 romp over the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday afternoon to break even on a six-game road trip.

Lane Thomas also homered for the Nationals, who lost the first two games of their trip in Arizona before winning three of the last four, including two of three in San Francisco.

As they did in Monday’s 5-1 win, the Nationals wasted no time building a commanding lead, putting up four runs in both the second and third innings to go up 8-0.

Adams’ homer, his first of the season and eighth of his three-year career, came after Dominic Smith opened the scoring against Manaea (1-2) with an RBI single.

The Giants left-hander was the victim of a bit of bad luck in the four-run third, as an error by third baseman J.D. Davis allowed the inning to extend. Stone Garrett made it 6-0 with a two-run single before Ildemaro Vargas tripled in a pair to blow the game open and end Manaea’s day.

Manaea was charged with eight runs (four earned) in 2 2/3 innings. He allowed five hits and three walks while striking out four.

Thomas’ homer, his fourth of the season, came in the sixth. It was a solo shot.

In losing for the third time in their last four outings, the Giants scored single runs in the third and sixth before getting two-run homers from Michael Conforto in the eighth and LaMonte Wade Jr. in the ninth.

Josiah Gray (3-5) worked the first seven innings for Washington, limiting the Giants to two runs and five hits. He walked four and struck out three.

Vargas finished with three hits and three RBIs for the Nationals, while Garrett scored three times after two singles and a walk.

Thomas, who scored twice, and Joey Meneses each added two hits. Smith also scored twice for Washington, which outhit the hosts 12-8.

Wade totaled three RBIs for the Giants, while rookie Casey Schmitt, who homered in his major league debut Tuesday, had a single, a double and scored a pair of runs in his encore performance.
